Battle in My Brain


Most people are primarily left brained (logical, structured, and ordered), or right brained (artists, expressive, and free thinking). I on the other hand have a battle in my brain everyday to see what side of me is going to win out.

The Engineer* in me says…
where is the system, the process, the check-list, the building blocks.

The Artist* in me says…
where is the spontaneity, the beauty, the response to reality that I so desire.
This blessing, which sometimes feels like a curse, often allows me to wrestle with and see things that others don’t.

*Yes, I am literally an Engineer (B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology) and a Artist (write, record and produce).

  1. oh man I'm there with you on the battle.

    Especially on the church. I find myself wanting to run it like a businesses. Giving it structure and process's and system, but then it starts to feel to mechanical.

    So then I find myself thinking it should be more creative. With progressive worship, lights and more media. But if I go to far that way it start to feel fake and trendy.

    It's s struggle to find a good balance.

  2. So that's why I like you! I am blessed with both as well...well, blessed in not the word that fits properly.

    My Dad is an engineer, my Mom an artist...neither paths cross. Somehow I got one of each gene...so I RESOATE with you totally!

    I have learned less and less though to be the perfectionist engineer, but I am sure I will never be johnny on the spot completely either. GREAT POST.
